class covers basic electricity and electronics including Ohms and
Watts Law. The mechanics will learn the use of wiring diagrams
and symbols.
Also covered is the diagnosis of opens, shorts and grounds, including the use of electrical test equipment to diagnose problems. Systems include: charging, starting, instruments, lighting, turn signals, warning devices, and batteries. The trainee will learn theory, construction, usage, operation and diagnosis of solid state components used in today's vehicles such as the programmable logic control systems that are now in use by most of the manufacturers. This will include typical electronic systems, electronic troubleshooting and power distribution. Precautions in troubleshooting will be stressed along with the use of the proper diagnostic and test equipment to prevent destruction of sensitive electronic components. Shop work consists of diagnosis and repair of problems in live electrical systems and troubleshooting problems programmed into our electrical diagnosis consoles. Safety and shop procedures are an important part of this class which is intended for experienced mechanics as well as those new to the trade or not familiar with the proper diagnosis and repair of problems in electrical and electronic systems.
